Programmes incorporated in curriculum (for pupils)

Maths Enhanced Learning Support Programme

The Enhanced Learning Support Programme for Maths (LSM) aims to provide early support for Primary 1 and 2 pupils who have weak basic numeracy skills. The programme focuses on basic mathematical skills and concepts to build good foundation in the pupils.

Pupils are fully withdrawn from their mainstream classes with lessons carried out in a small group during their Maths periods by a trained LSM Coordinator.

Pupils learn through many varied activities and hands-on experiences in a conducive environment.

Maths Big Book Reading Programme

P1 Maths Big Book Reading

Our Allied Educator (AED Maths) has designed interesting Maths activities which accompany the Maths Big Book Reading Programme in the P1 and P2 classrooms. The aim of this Big Book reading is to enable the pupils to learn Maths vocabulary and to reinforce the mathematical concepts that they have learnt in class.

Sustained Support for Mathematics (SSM) Programme for Primary 1 to 6

SSM programme was introduced to build essential Maths concepts and stimulate pupils’ interest in the learning of Maths using activity-based approach. The lessons are hands-on and manipulatives will be provided to the pupils for teaching in class.

Heuristics And Thinking Skills in Mathematics (HATS in Maths)

In addition to the teaching and learning that takes place in the classroom, the Mathematics Department has also included HATS in Maths programme into the curriculum. ‘HATS’ is the acronym for Heuristics And Thinking Skills. Heuristics refer to a series of strategies such as use a diagram, making a systematic list and work backwards; while some examples of thinking skills are analyzing parts and whole, sequencing and identifying patterns. Thinking skills and heuristics are important processes in handling mathematical problem solving. Hence, we would like to equip our pupils from Primary 1 to 6 with these skills.

Primary 4 to Primary 6 Mathematics Olympiad Programmes

The Olympiad programmes aim to stretch the Mathematically talented pupils and are progressive in content coverage from Primary 4 to Primary 6. After the training, selected Primary 4 to Primary 6 pupils will take part in the Maths Olympiad Competitions at national level after the training.

Maths Workshops for Parents:

The Mathematics department conducts Mathematics Workshops for the parents in Semester 1 every year.More details will be given to the parents once the details have been finalised.
